Chelsea have now offered Romeo Lavia a contract as the Blues attempt to beat Liverpool to the Southampton No.45’s signature.

That is according to Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, a story from talkSPORT on Monday claimed that Chelsea had been overtaken by Liverpool in the race to sign the Belgium international, as the Reds prepared an opening bid.

Now – however – it seems Chelsea are keen to agree personal terms with Lavia before making an offer to Southampton.

Aouna believes the Blues have put a contract on the table for the 19-year-old, although Southampton are yet to receive any official bids, despite Liverpool meeting the teenager’s representatives in recent weeks.

Lavia – who Kevin De Bruyne has tipped to become a “top player” one day, as quoted by Hampshire Live – put his name up in lights last season following a £14m move from Manchester City to Southampton.

Despite the Saints dropping into the Championship, the Belgian was their standout player and showed real maturity when operating at the base of midfield – it is hard to believe it was his first campaign in senior football.

According to Simon Phillips on Substack, Chelsea are willing to spend £50m on Lavia this summer.

Chelsea need Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo signed as soon as possible

In our view, Chelsea’s priority should be to get deals wrapped up for Lavia and Moises Caicedo as quickly as possible, in order to fend off the competition.

Mauricio Pochettino desperately needs a number of new midfielders, having lost N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek so far this summer.

Lavia and Caicedo would represent two superb additions who can immediately improve Chelsea’s midfield department, while they both also have the potential to become two of the best in their position one day.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as it remains to be seen if Lavia will accept the contract offer from Chelsea.
