Liverpool have now leapfrogged Chelsea in the race to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
That is according to talkSPORT.
So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to the Guardian – Mauricio Pochettino has personally requested the signing of the Belgium international to Todd Boehly as the Argentine attempts to strengthen his midfield department.
Chelsea are in desperate need of reinforcements in that area, following the departures of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Now – however – Liverpool have moved ahead of Chelsea in the battle to sign Lavia, with the Blues losing ground in this particular transfer saga.

TalkSPORT believe the Reds are now preparing an opening bid for the 19-year-old after wrapping up the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
Interestingly – according to Tutto Mercato Web – the Hungary international was a target for Chelsea as well.
Southampton value Lavia at £50m this summer, and he looks set to leave after the Saints were relegated to the Championship.
Lavia update is not ideal timing for Chelsea
By the sounds of it, Chelsea are focusing on Moises Caicedo this week, so Liverpool’s decision to push for Lavia now is hardly ideal timing for the Blues.
An update from Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea are holding new talks with Brighton this week over a deal to sign the Ecuador international, and negotiations are not expected to run smoothly given the stubborn nature of the Seagulls.

Brighton also want Levi Colwill on a permanent deal – something Chelsea are against sanctioning – which could cause problems in the Caicedo deal.
Therefore, it remains to be seen if Chelsea attempt to hijack Liverpool’s move for Lavia, while also juggling a deal to sign Caicedo – be sure to keep an eye on the developing situations.
