The transfer speculation this summer has pointed towards Chelsea signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, but Tottenham have emerged at the eleventh hour to swoop for the player. This late twist could give the Alexander Isak story a run for its money as the transfer saga of the summer.
It’s been a busy window to date for the Blues with plenty of new arrivals, and Xavi Simons has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Earlier this month, Simons told his family he only wanted to join Chelsea, even though Enzo Maresca’s side had yet to launch a formal offer.
Chelsea promised they would bid for Simons. However, it now looks like the 22-year-old Leipzig attacking midfielder is on his way to Spurs to play under Thomas Frank.

Chelsea decide they won’t make late move for Xavi Simons
The Athletic claimed on Friday morning that Spurs are set to complete the signing of Simons after agreeing a deal worth around €60m (£52m). Apparently, the Netherlands international has agreed personal terms and completed a medical in London on Thursday.
Journalist Matt Law has now added via X that Chelsea have “no intention” of hijacking Simons’ imminent move to Spurs at the last minute.
Even though Enzo Maresca’s side have held an interest in the Leipzig playmaker, they never submitted an actual bid. As a result, the highly-rated talent will be coming to the Premier League, but his new home will be in North London.

Spurs fans have been worried about Simons because they feared he would end up at Chelsea. Unless something dramatic happens now, it looks like they will have their target. Even though they missed out on Eberechi Eze to Arsenal this summer, history hasn’t repeated itself for them with Simons.
Chelsea’s final decision to exit the race for Simons will leave supporters wondering what they do next in the final few days of a dramatic summer transfer window.

Do Chelsea need to find a solution?
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has prioritised a new winger over Simons, and it’s widely reported that Manchester United wide man Alejandro Garnacho is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
However, supporters may feel a little empty if the club doesn’t sign another creative option, especially after the long-term pursuit of Simons.
The Blues do have Cole Palmer as their obvious star in the No.10 role. Alternatively, Joao Pedro has proven he can fill that same role excellently as well.
If Maresca’s side have enough time to switch to an alternative Simons target, we’d love to see it…
