Chelsea could reportedly face competition from rivals Manchester United to sign a Premier League star when the summer transfer window comes around.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Chelsea look to improve the Blues squad moving forward.
Even though Enzo Maresca is coaching a very talented young group, they’re only fifth in the Premier League table, and the Conference League competition remains their only hope of lifting silverware this campaign.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |

Alan Shearer sent a transfer message to Chelsea by telling them they’re still short of quality at goalkeeper, centre-back and striker. Let’s see if the ownership and recruiters listen to the advice.

Chelsea face competition from Manchester United for Bart Verbruggen
Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, 22, has been mentioned as a potential target for the Blues.
It was recently claimed in a report that Chelsea are interested in Brighton’s Verbruggen as he ticks the box as a ball-playing keeper. In fact, “he fits everything Enzo Maresca wants” in between the sticks.
Now, GiveMeSport adds that Brighton’s Verbruggen is on Chelsea’s radar as they contemplate signing a new shot-stopper. Apparently, they could face competition from Man Utd for his signature because they may look to find an upgrade on Andre Onana.
Elsewhere, The Mirror reports that Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is monitoring Verbruggen, who’s valued at around £50m.

How Bart Verbruggen compares to Chelsea’s goalkeeper
In the 2024/25 season so far, Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have been competing for Chelsea’s starting position in goal. It’s fair to say that both have flattered to deceive when they’ve played, though.
However, the underlying numbers don’t really suggest that Verbruggen would be a significant upgrade next season.
| Player | Appearances | Save percentage | Clean sheet percentage | Pass completion | Crossed stopped percentage | Yellow cards |
| Bart Verbruggen | 25 | 67.3% | 24.0% | 77.1% | 7.0% | 4 |
| Robert Sanchez | 21 | 76.3% | 19.0% | 73.3% | 13.7% | 5 |
| Filip Jorgensen | 6 | 71.4% | 16.7% | 83.6% | 3.8%% | 0 |
Verbruggen has made four errors leading to goal already this season for Brighton (FOTMOB), so there are question marks against his name just like Chelsea’s goalkeepers.
Jorgensen is the Premier League’s lowest rated keeper following his struggles since replacing Sanchez as the first-choice option. It’s pretty clear that Chelsea simply must fix their issue in goal if they are to be a successful team moving forward.
Blues fans were used to watching colossus glovemen such as Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois in net, but they’re a million miles off that right now.
