£21m Chelsea man is the lowest rated player in his position across the entire Premier League this season, the Blues have faith in him

Chelsea’s first-team player has been rated as the Premier League’s worst individual in his position so far this season.

Even though Chelsea have been going through a difficult period in the last couple of months, there are still plenty of stars in the Blues squad enjoying strong campaigns. For example, the likes of Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo have been superb.

It’s interesting that Chelsea believes injuries have impacted their form and are the biggest contributor towards the team’s drop-off.

In the last 11 Premier League games, the Blues only have three victories. It currently leaves them fifth in the division table as they fight for Champions League qualification.

Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen is the lowest rated goalkeeper in the Premier League

The statistics don’t make for pretty reading when it comes to Chelsea gloveman Filip Jorgensen.

Remarkably, WhoScored data records that Jorgensen is the lowest rated goalkeeper so far in the 2024/25 Premier League season with a 6.33 average match rating.

In fairness, Jorgensen has only recently replaced teammate Robert Sanchez as the starting league keeper for the Blues. The 22-year-old shot-stopper is definitely still trying to settle and prove his qualities during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.

During Chelsea’s recent 4-0 home win over Southampton, Blues fans were booing Jorgensen inside the ground due to the goalkeeper’s reluctance to play it long. However, head coach Enzo Maresca threatened to substitute Jorgensen if he moved away from short passes and building from the back.

On top of the nervousness around his passing, Jorgensen’s not inspiring with the gloves either. He conceded a howler late on recently to gift Aston Villa a league win over them.

Chelsea do have faith in Filip Jorgensen

It cost Chelsea £21m (Daily Mail) to sign Jorgensen from Villarreal last summer. It’s worth adding that he had only played 44 senior matches for the Spanish club before his high-profile transfer to English football.

Even though he’s going through a challenging debut campaign so far with the Blues, he should be encouraged by a recent report.

It was claimed back in January that Chelsea think Jorgensen has ‘elite potential’ as a young goalkeeper.

Now that he’s getting his chance to start ahead of Sanchez in-between the sticks, we feel it’s absolutely vital that he improves and seizes a massive opportunity to make himself undroppable.

It’s going to be interesting to see who Maresca decides to start in goal for the upcoming games against Copenhagen (Conference League) and Leicester City (Premier League).
