Chelsea and Al-Ahli target Victor Osimhen now looks to have chosen his next destination.

Victor Osimhen has been a key target for Chelsea during this late part of the transfer window.

It was claimed earlier that Chelsea signing Osimhen on loan with an obligation to buy was possible.

The Blues have faced strong competition from Al-Ahli, though, so a deal has never been easy.

Al-Ahli closing in on Victor Osimhen

In a blow to Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, Al-Ahli look to be closing in on a deal to sign Osimhen from Napoli.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, all parties are just working on the final details of the transfer that will see Al-Ahli sign the 25-year-old for €80m (£67m).

On Osimhen’s imminent move to Saudi Arabia and the amount of money he is set to earn, Di Marzio posted on X: “Parties working on final details: 4-year contract at around €40m per year. Napoli expected to earn around €80m + add-ons.”

Osimhen wanted Chelsea to make him a new offer, but it looks like that offer did not come or was not good enough for the Nigerian.

Chelsea now have to sign Ivan Toney

With Osimhen seemingly no longer on the table for Chelsea, the Blues would be wise to now focus on bringing in Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Chelsea and Arsenal could battle for Toney today, and it is a battle the former really need to win after missing out on Osimhen.

Their squad needs another centre-forward, otherwise Maresca risks having a season where he has to depend on Nicolas Jackson too much.

Toney is a very suitable option. He is experienced, has already played in the Premier League and appears to be available after entering the final year of his contract.

Ultimately, the 28-year-old could be such a good alternative to Jackson. If not him, then it may just be worth the Blues going with what they have until January.

This late in the transfer window, Chelsea are going to find it difficult to find another decent option.
