Chelsea are now getting close to securing the signing of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

That is according to a report from The Evening Standard.

They claim that Chelsea are edging nearer to the signing of Romeo Lavia, 19, after making a new offer.

It is understood that Championship side Southampton have put a £50million valuation on his head, but the Blues have stepped forward with a £55million bid.

The report explains that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are firmly in the driving seat to sign the Belgian midfielder after previously failing in this window with a £48million offer.

We’ve seen Lavia receive plenty of transfer links to Liverpool in recent days. Chelsea are now in pole position for the Southampton youngster, though.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently reported on Twitter that Chelsea’s immediate focus to help strengthen the midfield was to sign Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

The speculation flying around suggests that Pochettino could end up with both talented defensive midfielders.

Sky Sports claimed last night that Chelsea are now getting ready to launch a £115million move for 21-year-old Brighton star Caicedo.

Described as a “rare” player by Vincent Kompany in Het Nieuwsblad (September, 2021), Lavia is far too good to spend a season in the Championship with Southampton.

A lot of the past 48 hours has seen Chelsea fans frantically searching for updates on the Caicedo pursuit, which is why this Lavia news has come from nowhere. It’s certainly a pleasant surprise, too.

Despite being 19, Lavia proved last year in the Premier League he’s a modern day No 6 that could bring a lot to Chelsea’s midfield.
