Chelsea look set to offload Nicolas Jackson and on their terms as the striker closes in on a move to Bayern Munich.

Jackson was about to join Bayern on an initial loan, but Chelsea called off the deal after Liam Delap injured himself against Fulham.

However, Bayern restarted negotiations for Jackson and now appear to be close to signing the 24-year-old from the Blues.

While Enzo Maresca probably wanted him back in his squad after Delap’s injury, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are about to get what they want.

Bayern Munich set to sign Nicolas Jackson on loan with an obligation to buy

Chelsea were always hoping to make big money from Jackson through a permanent sale or a loan with an obligation to buy.

At the end of August, it was reported that Jackson’s loan deal had to include a written guarantee that the club signing the Senegal international would eventually purchase him.

Chelsea’s stance softened and they were ready to let Jackson join Bayern on loan with an option to buy until Delap got injured. According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, Bayern’s deal is now set to include an obligation to buy rather than an option.

Reporting for Sky Sports News from Stamford Bridge (01/09/2025 at 14:26), Solhekol said: “I’m just being told in the last few minutes that this breakthrough in talks is because Bayern are now willing to accept the obligation element in the loan agreement. So it looks like this on-off move is definitely back on.”

Newcastle United are about to land Yoane Wissa from Brentford, so they are no longer an option for Jackson. It is either Bayern or nothing, then, for the former Villarreal man.

Bayern Munich also interested in another Chelsea star

Jackson is not the only Chelsea star who is currently on Bayern’s radar. It is thought that Bayern also have an interest in Josh Acheampong.

With it being this late in the transfer window, though, there is no chance of Chelsea allowing the defender to leave.

Alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, he is helping to fill the hole left by Levi Colwill, who could miss most of the season because of an ACL injury. Maresca will not approve of Acheampong being allowed to leave now, unless the club can sign another centre-back at the last minute.
