Chelsea are expected to hold further discussions about signing a summer transfer target who’s a big admirer of Blues loanee Carney Chukwuemeka.
Even though Chelsea still have a really important month ahead to finish the 2024/25 season, the transfer speculation is beginning to really ramp up ahead of the summer window.
There’s been such a huge turnover of the Blues squad in the last couple of years, so let’s see if yet more changes are just around the corner.
Chelsea’s summer transfer plan includes trying to wrap up a couple of early signings before the Club World Cup tournament kicks off in mid-June. Fortunately, they’ll have time before the competition begins to sign individuals as the summer transfer window will be split into two parts to allow Club World Cup competitions to add fresh faces.

Chelsea set for more discussions with Borussia Dortmund star Gregor Kobel
It’s been claimed that Chelsea could spend big on a new goalkeeper to boost their team for next season. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see Enzo Maresca’s side linked with numerous quality shot-stoppers.
According to Foot Mercato, Chelsea and Newcastle United have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.
It is explained that both Premier League clubs have already been in talks with the 27-year-old’s representatives. Apparently, there will now be further talks with both sides in London in the coming days.
The report adds that Dortmund do expect to sell their Swiss goalkeeper in the summer.
Chelsea massively rate Gregor Kobel because they think the Dortmund ace can grow into the best goalkeepers in the world.
| Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |

Sebastian Kehl, the Dortmund sporting director, already rates Kobel as a “world-class” player. He said via the Bundesliga’s official website: “In Dortmund, Gregor has developed into a goalkeeper of world-class calibre who has attracted the interest of many top clubs in Europe.”

Gregor Kobel is a big admirer of Carney Chukwuemeka
Even though Kobel has spent his entire senior club career in Germany so far, he’s got some connections to various Chelsea players.
The Dortmund gloveman shared a dressing room with Blues winger Jadon Sancho in the second half of last season. In addition, he’s currently a teammate of Chelsea loanee Carney Chukwuemeka this campaign.
Earlier in April, Kobel delivered a glowing verdict on Chukwuemeka. He said via Dortmund’s official website: “He’s brutally strong, the boy. You could see from the first training session that he has very good athleticism, such agility, such speed. And he’s brave. He always wants the ball. Carney is very, very good for us.”
Borussia Dortmund want to re-sign Carney Chukwuemeka on another loan spell next season. It’ll be interesting to see if Kobel is a factor in any transfer negotiations further down the line between the clubs.
