Chelsea to make move for £100m man once Enzo Fernandez is sold

It is still early days in the transfer window, but Chelsea fans are already unhappy with their club, who could lose Enzo Fernandez in the coming weeks.

Chelsea could sell Fernandez to Real Madrid, have already allowed Marc Cucurella to join the Spanish giants and are yet to make any signings.

After a season where the team finished 10th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for any form of European football, supporters were expecting early action in the transfer market. Instead, they have sold one of their best players and could be about to do the same with another.

However, Fernandez’s exit could pave the way for Chelsea to make a big signing before the 2026/27 season starts.

Chelsea set to make move for Adam Wharton after they sell Enzo Fernandez

One player who could come in to replace Fernandez is Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton despite the 22-year-old not being the same profile of midfielder as the Argentine.

Chelsea want to discuss signing Wharton with Palace, though the club may have to wait a little while before they can.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, who has posted an update on Fernandez’s and Wharton’s situations on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Chelsea are set to make a move for the Englishman but only after they sell their World Cup winner.

It is thought that Palace want £100m for Wharton, but Phillips has not ruled out the possibility of the Palace man going for a cheaper fee.

Chelsea have not had an issue with forking out £100m on a midfielder before. Fernandez cost more than that when they signed him from Benfica in 2023, while the Club World Cup winners had to pay £115m to bring in Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Clearly, though, they seem unprepared to break the bank for Wharton, who is a good midfielder but perhaps not worth £100m just yet.
