Chelsea may be interested in signing a player this summer who’s currently playing for London rivals Tottenham.
Chelsea and Spurs locked horns earlier in April at Stamford Bridge, with the hosts winning by a 1-0 scoreline to gain three points in the Premier League.
Jason Cundy praised Blues manager Enzo Maresca for changing his tactics to grind out an important victory over Spurs at the start of the month. Unfortunately, they followed it up with a frustrating goalless draw away to Brentford on Sunday.
The Blues do still sit fourth in the Premier League table as they hunt down Champions League qualification, while rivals Spurs are down in 14th because of their poor form this season.

Chelsea may look to sign current Tottenham star Mathys Tel
Mathys Tel, 19, was one of the big talking points in the 2025 January transfer window.
Even though the teenage attacker was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, he ended up leaving Bayern Munich to join Spurs on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. Incidentally, it was confirmed that Ange Postecoglou’s side have the option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Now, GiveMeSport claims that Tel could become a target again for Chelsea if Spurs decline their option to buy him from Bayern.
Back in January, Chelsea were interested in signing Tel from Bayern, but the player had doubts about whether he would get regular game time. Instead, he decided to join Spurs on loan.
Even though Blues sporting director Laurence Stewart really likes Tel, he missed out on the French youngster’s signature. Let’s wait and see if the club gets another opportunity to sign him at the end of the season.
The reality is that the on-loan Spurs forward, who can play as a winger or centre-forward, has struggled to light up the Premier League yet in his brief spell. He was only used as a late substitute in Spurs’ recent defeat to Chelsea, too.

Chelsea don’t need record-breaker Mathys Tel
Even though Tel doesn’t turn 20 until later in April, he’s still got plenty of experience under his belt. In fact, he’s scored 16 goals in 83 senior appearances for German giants Bayern.
In 2022, Tel broke the record to become the youngest goalscorer in Bayern’s history, which is a record that still stands.
| Player | Date | Age at the time |
| Mathys Tel | 31 August 2022 | 17 years 4 months 4 days |
| Jamal Musiala | 18 September 2020 | 17 years 6 months 23 days |
| Toni Kroos | 25 October 2007 | 17 years 9 months 21 days |
While we do think Tel is a talented youngster with a big future ahead of him, Chelsea shouldn’t be waiting to pounce on his signature. Instead, the Blues’ priority should be strengthening their forward line in the summer with a proven goalscorer who’s close to his prime years.
As proven this season, the Chelsea squad is crying out for a bit more experience and know-how to help the numerous young stars.
