Chelsea will have the chance to sign a new striker when the transfer window opens in January.
They are currently being linked with several names, including Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Journalist Ben Jacobs, though, has told GiveMeSport that another high-profile centre-forward would have been on Chelsea‘s shortlist had he not moved in the last transfer window.
The Blues signed a new striker during the summer, Nicolas Jackson, and the 22-year-old has been on fire in his side’s last couple of fixtures.
He scored in the 4-4 draw with Manchester City just before the international break and bagged a hat-trick in the 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur the match prior to the recent thriller at Stamford Bridge. However, that has not stopped Chelsea from being linked with other players in his position.
Harry Kane would have been on Chelsea’s list if he were still at Tottenham
According to Jacobs, if Harry Kane had not joined Bayern Munich and stayed at Tottenham, Chelsea would be in for him now.
Speaking to GiveMeSport about the England captain, who joined the Bundesliga champions in an £86.4m deal in August (BBC Sport), Jacobs said: “There is no doubt Harry Kane would have also been on the list if he hadn’t moved to Bayern.
“That’s the type of profile Chelsea want: not just someone with good numbers and potential, but a world-class finisher right now. They are few and far between, so it’s not an easy task.”

Harry Kane would have been an incredible signing for Chelsea
To little surprise, Kane is absolutely tearing it up in the Bundesliga right now.
He has already scored 17 goals in just 11 league appearances — it is ridiculous. Of course, the Bundesliga is not the best division in the world and Kane is playing for a club who are on a completely different level to their rivals.
However, the 30-year-old obviously has an incredible record in the Premier League as well, so he would have been more than a safe bet for Chelsea.
Unfortunately for Kane’s former manager Mauricio Pochettino, he joined Bayern and is not on the market, leaving the Blues having to look elsewhere if they want to sign a new striker next year.
