Conor Gallagher has posted a goodbye message to Chelsea fans after officially completing his transfer to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday morning, which has received a response from club legend John Terry.
It’s been one of the most intriguing sagas of this summer transfer window, but Conor Gallagher has now officially left Chelsea.
Atletico confirmed via their X account this morning that Gallagher is now their player.
Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ recently, Micah Richards expressed sadness about Gallagher’s exit, largely because he’s a homegrown player from the club’s academy. Remarkably, he’s ended an 18-year association after joining the club’s training path to the academy at the age of six.
The 24-year-old England international will now look to continue his development by succeeding in La Liga with Atletico Madrid.

Conor Gallagher’s farewell message, John Terry reacts
Gallagher has uploaded a heartfelt post on social media commenting on his Chelsea departure this summer.
He wrote on Instagram: “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true. It’s been an absolute honor every time I put on the shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on many occasions.
“I loved every moment. These memories will last forever. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans. Hearing the chant of my name at the Bridge is a special feeling, and the banner you displayed meant the world to me.
“Thank you for everything. I wish the club all the best for the future, and I hope to see you all soon at Stamford Bridge! Conor.”
There’s also been a response in the post’s comment section from Chelsea icon John Terry, who’s shared his disappointment about Gallagher’s exit.
He wrote: “Gutted to see you go mate. Good luck.”

Where does it leave Chelsea’s midfield?
Despite Gallagher leaving in this window, Chelsea’s options in the centre of the park still looks incredibly strong.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca managed to fit central midfielders Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez into the same starting line-up at the weekend during the league defeat to Manchester City. On top of that, there’s alternative options such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Chelsea should still find themselves in a good position this season when it comes to the midfield positions.
