It is fair to say that Chelsea have been in the business of being ruthless since their new owners took over the club.
It has been the mantra under Todd Boehly for players not to be allowed to stay while in the last year of their contract, and this has previously seen the exit of some big names,
There is perhaps no bigger example than Mason Mount, who many were tipping to become a Chelsea legend before he was shipped to Manchester United.

It looks as if the same is about to occur to another player who made a huge impact at Stamford Bridge last season.
Conor Gallagher’s move to Atletico Madrid is imminent, after a deal couldn’t be agreed on a new contract for him to stay.

Micah Richards upset at Conor Gallagher sale
Chelsea supporters were not happy at the treatment of Gallagher, and it seems it has not gone down too well with pundits either.
Micah Richards told ‘The Rest is Football’ that he was upset that the homegrown star was going to be on the move.
He said: “I’m a bit sad to see him go because again, another homegrown player sort of being edged out, I know Chelsea fans are not happy about it, a couple of my Chelsea mates have texted me saying ‘it’s a disgrace’.
“It’s amazing tactically for him going into an Atletico Madrid team where they all know his jobs, I think it’s a brilliant move for him.”
Enzo Maresca has plan for Enzo Fernandez
The midfield position at the club looks pretty stacked for next season already, with plenty of options available.
Maresca’s recent comments suggest he has a plan for Enzo Fernandez that may well allow Chelsea fans to see the best out of him at last.
Elsewhere, Romeo Lavia has staked his claim for a start following an excellent pre-season that has not seen any reoccurrence of an injury which kept him out for nearly all of last season.
