David Ornstein claims Chelsea still targeting three players in different positions this summer

Chelsea are still working on potential deals for three targets in three different positions in this transfer window, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Following the arrivals of Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella from Aston Villa and Brighton, respectively, Chelsea have now brought in four players this summer.

There were talks about how the acquisition of the club by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital consortium might change how the club operate in the transfer market, but so far, the ownership group have proved that they are willing to invest big in players.

The Blues have reportedly spent around £165million on transfers this summer, and according to Ornstein, Chelsea are still looking to bring more players in.

“They want more,” the journalist told NBC Sports when speaking about Chelsea transfer plans this summer.

“They want Wesley Fofana from Leicester City, Chelsea are in for [Barcelona’s] Frenkie de Jong too.

“There is interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he leaves Barcelona.

“So, they [the new Chelsea ownership group] are trying everything they can do to be successful at Stamford Bridge and get this new era off to a positive start.”

Fabrizio Romano claimed that Chelsea submitted a £70m bid for Fofana on Friday and are expected to be back with another improved offer following Leicester City’s rejection.

This means Chelsea could spend more than the £200m transfer budget that the new ownership group reportedly promised Thomas Tuchel this summer (The Times).

Obviously, Chelsea will likely look to offset their spending by selling their players, such as Marcos Alonso, who is reportedly close to joining Barcelona, Timo Werner, and perhaps, Hakim Ziyech.
