Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Crystal Palace have refused to shut the door on a potential sale of Wilfried Zaha to Chelsea this summer.

The Ivory Coast international has emerged as a late target to join the Blues this summer, who still don’t seem entirely convinced by their current attacking options.

Zaha has started the season in fine form, scoring three times in as many games including a fantastic strike at Anfield to help his side towards a massive point.

This comes following his most prolific Premier League season up to date, scoring 14 goals last season in 33 appearances as he starred for Palace alongside Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher.

When interest has arisen in the 29-year-old, he has often been touted as a perfect addition to any big club, described previously as ‘unplayable.’

Chelsea make first move for Zaha

Goals have certainly been an issue for the Blues over the last few seasons, with only Mason Mount hitting double digits at all in the last two campaigns.

This could be behind their interest in Zaha, with Phillips claiming they have now made a first movements to sign him before the window closes later this week.

He said: “Chelsea made an enquiry for Zaha last week. The response from Crystal Palace was that they didn’t shut the door.”

While the late nature of Chelsea’s interest will make any potential deal difficult to make, fans will be far more interested in a deal for the Palace man than the reported move for Everton’s Anthony Gordon.

Supporters were unconvinced by the club’s reported interest in the 21-year-old, despite Thomas Tuchel being reportedly keen on forging a deal.

There is also interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, although Zaha showcasing already this season that he can play through the middle of an attack, and could certainly do that job for Chelsea.
