Even though it’s been a positive start to the new 2025/26 season for Chelsea, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is still worried about a couple of things.
Chelsea went into the international break in positive spirits after seven points out of a possible nine at the start of the Premier League.
Next, the Blues return this Saturday with a fourth consecutive London derby, travelling to local rivals Brentford.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 4 | 4 | 9 | |
| 2 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 7 | 1 | 6 | 7 | |
| 3 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 6 | 1 | 5 | 6 | |
| 4 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 5 | 1 | 4 | 6 |
For Enzo Maresca, he’ll be hoping for a successful second year in charge. It was reported that Maresca was slightly frustrated with Chelsea’s transfer activity because he didn’t get everything he asked for, but he’s still been left to work with a talented young squad.

Chelsea could be prepared to sign two players in January
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea won’t shy away from making ‘ruthless decisions’ in defence when the January transfer window comes around if they need to.
It is understood that Chelsea boss Maresca has some ‘concern’ over both the goalkeeper and centre-back positions. Apparently, the Blues’ transfer watchlists will be updated accordingly ahead of the mid-season window.
The report explains that some Chelsea figures think they have enough quality and depth at centre-half to cope, even with Levi Colwill’s ACL injury. In addition, club staff are keeping faith with Robert Sanchez to continue as the first-choice starting goalkeeper.
The current Blues squad have a few months now to prove themselves, but it won’t be long before the transfer rumours intensify again around potential targets.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper spot should be under the microscope
While we wouldn’t be against signing a top-class centre-half, Chelsea still have the likes of Wesely Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Josh Acheampong and Benoit Badiashile to play in the heart of defence.
If there’s one area that warrants the most focus, it is definitely the goalkeeper position.
Jody Morris thinks Chelsea must replace Sanchez in net if they want to take the step to the next level.
The 27-year-old gloveman is running out of time to prove his many doubters wrong, but he’s still in possession of the shirt right now. It would be some turnaround if he manages to change everyone’s opinion on him.
