Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has reportedly played a personal role in the club selling one of their youngsters this summer.

Several Chelsea players have trained away from the first-team group while their futures are sorted out in this transfer window. It’s now been claimed in the transfer rumour mill that one of the young individuals has been sold.

Let’s hope Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is still able to bring through academy graduates into the senior group. Incidentally, journalist Bobby Vincent reports via X that Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong may be with the squad against Servette in Thursday’s Conference League play-off tie.

Tino Anjorin joins Empoli

According to Football.London, Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin has completed a permanent transfer to Serie A club Empoli. It’s worth noting that this deal hasn’t been confirmed by either team yet, though.

It is explained that Blues manager Maresca ‘personally recommended’ the 22-year-old midfielder to the Italian side.

Anjorin has been on Chelsea’s books since the age of seven and risen through the academy ranks, playing five first-team games as well. However, he’s now decided to make a permanent switch to Italy to continue his football career. In fairness, previous Chelsea stars such as Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham have all done well in the Serie A recently.

Chelsea trimming the squad

Unfortunately, Anjorin’s pathway into Chelsea’s XI seemed pretty impossible, so selling him is the sensible move for all parties.

For Empoli, they’re getting a box-to-box midfielder who’s got big potential if he can overcome his injury problems. Speaking via The Athletic in 2022, Blues defender Levi Colwill described Anjorin as “remarkable”.

As for Chelsea, it’s another name and wage off the books. Fans are keen to overlook the fact that Chelsea have sold the likes of Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson and DIego Moreira already in this window.
