The ongoing saga involving Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and his proposed move to Atletico Madrid is one of the wildest stories of this summer transfer window.

There’s been widespread reports in the media across the past week suggesting that Conor Gallagher, 24, will be signing as an Atletico player. The Chelsea academy graduate is now stuck in limbo, though.

Mundo Deportivo claimed last Friday that Gallagher trained with Atletico ahead of an imminent transfer. However, the deal still hasn’t been confirmed by either club and he’s now returned to England.

Conor Gallagher is back at Chelsea and will resume training

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Gallagher will begin training as a Chelsea player again after returning to London from Madrid on Tuesday.

It is explained that the transfer discussions between Chelsea and Atletico for the England international are still ongoing.

Horrible situation for Conor Gallagher

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Gallagher right now because he’s stuck in a nightmare position worrying about his future. The fact he’s had to return to Chelsea while his future and a transfer to Madrid still hangs in the balance is tough.

Blues supporters know from first-hand experience that Gallagher’s the ultimate professional, so expect him to continue behaving in a classy way. Hopefully, there can be some sort of conclusion for him in the coming hours so this doesn’t drag on much longer.

In the meantime, Chelsea are linked with signing Atletico attacker Joao Felix in a separate deal.

O JOGO reports that Chelsea have now submitted an opening bid to sign Felix, who’s a player they previously had on loan in 2023.
