What Chelsea plan to do with Conor Gallagher if he doesn’t leave the club this summer

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher looked set for a Stamford Bridge exit, which he still may end up getting.

However, after Chelsea pulled out of a deal to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid, his move to the Spanish club also looks to be off for the time being.

Conor Gallagher will now train with the Chelsea U21s after returning from Spain, which is quite some fall from grace.

Last season, Gallagher made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and got to captain them.

Conor Gallagher could stay at Chelsea

As of now, then, it does not look like Gallagher will be joining Atletico, though there is obviously still plenty of time for things to change.

If not, then the Englishman could end up remaining at Stamford Bridge. In fact, not only could he stay, but he could also sign a new contract.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are not ruling out the possibility of tying Gallagher down to the same contract that they previously offered him.

With the transfer window still open, there is a good chance of Chelsea signing Joao Felix from Atletico and if that happens, it is likely to unlock the door for the La Liga outfit to purchase Gallagher. So this one is not completely dead yet, with Atletico just needing to raise the funds to finalise a deal.

Ben Chilwell could follow Conor Gallagher out of Chelsea

Gallagher is not the only England international who could leave west London before the transfer market shuts, with Ben Chilwell‘s future at Chelsea also in doubt.

Chilwell is frustrated with life under Enzo Maresca so far, failing to pick up a single minute in the Blues’ final pre-season fixture against Inter Milan last Sunday.

Marc Cucurella is expected to be Maresca‘s first-choice left-back this season, while Chelsea have also brought in Renato Veiga, so things are not looking good for Chilwell right now. Do not be surprised, then, to see both him and Gallagher leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
