Chelsea could have a golden opportunity to sign one of their targets, with it emerging that he has a release clause in his contract.
Chelsea may have to sign a new centre-back either this month or in the summer. Wesley Fofana cannot stay fit, while Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah were really exposed in their side’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
In fact, Colwill may have had his worst game in a blue shirt as he struggled to contain Erling Haaland.
As the club consider strengthening their backline, one really interesting opportunity could present itself soon.

Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen has release clause in contract
Earlier this month, it was reported that Dean Huijsen is one of four Bournemouth players attracting interest from Chelsea.
Huijsen has been such a key player for the Cherries this season, so they will not want to lose him. However, they may be powerless to stop the 19-year-old from leaving.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Huijsen has a release clause in his contract, though it will only become active in the summer, and is “high” on Chelsea’s shortlist.
It means Chelsea may have to wait until then to sign the Spain U21 international.

Dean Huijsen compared to Ciro Ferrara
Even before Huijsen arrived at Bournemouth the young defender was earning rave reviews.
His former manager Massimiliano Allegri once compared him to Juventus and Serie A legend Ciro Ferrara during his time at the Allianz Stadium.
Speaking to DAZN (via Juventus News 24) after one game in 2023, Allegri said: “Huijsen came in calm and relaxed in playing, he never played difficult balls and never put his teammate in difficulty. He read the game like a great player, he did something like Ciro Ferrara.”
For as good as Huijsen has been this term, though, after watching Chelsea in their latest defeat, it is quite obvious they need a very dominant defender. Again, Colwill and Chalobah were absolutely dominated by Haaland.
Whether Huijsen can be that dominant defender who can stop the biggest threats in the Premier League in a blue shirt remains to be seen. Given his age, build and lack of experience, some Chelsea supporters will have their doubts.
