Former Chelsea Champions League winner could join Graham Potter at West Ham, Blues have £68m buy-back clause

West Ham United and Graham Potter could try to sign one of Chelsea’s 2021 Champions League winners this summer.

Chelsea‘s Champions League-winning squad has been torn apart, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Jorginho no longer at Stamford Bridge.

Several Chelsea academy graduates, such as Mount, helped the Blues to win Europe’s elite competition for a second time in the club’s history.

And it looks like Graham Potter now wants one of them at West Ham once the transfer window opens.

West Ham interested in signing Tammy Abraham

Chelsea sold Tammy Abraham to AS Roma in 2021 and included a £68m buy-back clause in the deal.

Jose Mourinho convinced Abraham to join Roma and now another former Chelsea manager, Potter, could also find himself sweet talking the striker into a transfer.

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham have already enquired about Abraham, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

The same outlet claims that Milan are not planning to make the 27-year-old’s loan deal a permanent transfer, which is good news for the Hammers.

However, Everton are also thought to be interested in Abraham, so West Ham could face competition for his signature in the summer.

Abraham still follows Chelsea, predicting that they would finish in the top four earlier this season. Enzo Maresca‘s men are currently fifth in the Premier League table, so it is more than possible.

That and winning the Conference League will be their aim. Chelsea take on Copenhagen in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday.

Tammy Abraham ticks a lot of boxes for Chelsea

Chelsea themselves should be considering signing Abraham as they prepare to enter the market for a new striker.

Chelsea have an interest in Benjamin Sesko, but if they cannot get the RB Leipzig star or Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, for example, then Abraham would not be a bad alternative.

The England international is already familiar with the Premier League, is an experienced professional now at 27 and can find the back of the net.

His best season in the English top flight is not too dissimilar to Nicolas Jackson’s 2023/24 campaign. He scored one more goal than Chelsea’s current first-choice striker and that is despite playing fewer games and minutes.

Abraham is not worth his buy-back clause. He has not kicked on since his impressive maiden season at the Stadio Olimpico.

But with Roma having already loaned him to Milan, the Blues should be able to get him for a much lower fee should they become interested in his services.
