Graham Potter asks about signing £40m Chelsea player on deadline day

Chelsea will be hoping to part ways with a number of unwanted players before the transfer window closes today, and one of those could be making a move across the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca ran into an issue upon taking over at Stamford Bridge with a plethora of players who were not in contention to play for the first team.

This is where the ‘bomb squad’ became a bit of a running joke around Chelsea, and players such as Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling have seen themselves completely away from the first team squad since their returns to pre-season.

They were able to find loans for a number of these players at some stage of last season, with Axel Disasi one of those who spent part of the campaign away, in his case at Aston Villa.

West Ham ask about signing Axel Disasi on deadline day

It emerged that Villa were not keen on signing Disasi permanently, and he has remained at Stamford Bridge all the way up until deadline day of the summer window.

He is one whose situation could now play out in the final hours of the transfer window. Journalist Jacob Steinberg has claimed that Graham Potter’s West Ham have asked about signing the Frenchman on loan today.

He said: “West Ham have asked Chelsea about a loan for Axel Disasi. Remains to be seen if clubs can come to an agreement on finances of a deal.”

Other Premier League interest in Disasi on deadline day

Despite not yet moving, there has been plenty of interest in Disasi from other Premier League clubs during this summer transfer window.

Wolves were heavily linked with Disasi, although it is not them that have so far been linked with a deadline day swoop for the defender.

Palace have been linked with Disasi in the final hours of the window, with them potentially needing to find a replacement for Marc Guehi if he moves to Liverpool.
