Chelsea are interested in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen before the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea are in the market for a centre-forward and were close to bringing in Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.

However, a deal for the Olympic gold medalist has collapsed, and Chelsea are now trying to sign Joao Felix instead.

But with Felix not being a natural striker, the Blues are still targeting a No.9 in the form of Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen wanted at Chelsea

If Chelsea do go on to sign Osimhen this summer, it looks like the 25-year-old will be a welcome addition at Cobham.

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, the coaching staff at Chelsea, which includes manager Enzo Maresca, have let the club know they want Osimhen and have given the green light for a move to be made for him. It comes after it was initially claimed that Maresca wasn’t too keen on Osimhen.

It is highly unlikely that a deal will be completed before this weekend, though, meaning that Nicolas Jackson will probably lead the line for the Blues when they take on Manchester City on Sunday.

Tony Cascarino wants Chelsea to persist with Jackson, but the arrival of Osimhen would likely result in the 23-year-old dropping down to the bench.

Chelsea transfer news: striker

Osimhen does not appear to be the only centre-forward that Chelsea have on their shortlist right now.

It has been claimed that Chelsea could try to sign Ivan Toney on loan with an obligation to buy towards the end of the transfer window.

The Brentford striker has less than a year to run on his contract, so it is something that the Blues may be able to pull off.

Whether it is Osimhen or Toney, Maresca could really do with a new No.9 coming through the door. Chelsea are light there, with Jackson being the only proven option in the first-team squad at present. And still being just 23 years of age, the Senegal international is not the finished article either.
