Chelsea are reportedly about to complete the signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United in a dramatic late signing on deadline day.

The Blues have been linked with Jadon Sancho, 24, on the final day of this summer transfer window.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard raved about Sancho years ago. Now, it sounds like the English winger will be trying to create his own legacy in West London.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Sancho on loan. Interestingly, the transfer includes an obligation to buy clause.

How much Jadon Sancho will cost Chelsea

Journalist Ben Jacobs has further reported via X that Chelsea’s obligation to buy Sancho from Man United is worth around £25m.

Man United completed a £73m deal (BBC) back in 2021 to sign Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The significant drop in his valuation certainly highlights that it’s not worked out too well for him at Old Trafford.

At the age of 24, there’s still time for the skilful wide player to get back on track and fulfil his potential.

Sancho’s immediate focus when he arrives at Chelsea should be to get playing regular football, but there’s no doubt he’s facing real competition for a starting position.

Jadon Sancho price a gamble worth taking

At £25m, you could argue that Chelsea are taking a calculated risk by signing Sancho. If he rediscovers the form he once showed for Borussia Dortmund, he’ll make a mockery of that transfer fee.

However, the competition for places is the alarming issue. It feels like Sancho needs to hit the ground running from day one and really make this a new chapter in his career.

Incidentally, Chelsea supporters may be left scratching their head that another winger is joining when they’re crying out for a No.9.
