As a result of injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, Chelsea could buy a new central defender this month.
Two players who have been linked to the Blues are Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
It has been claimed that Chelsea are considering both Araujo and Guehi during this transfer window.
Neither player was needed on Saturday, though, with Enzo Maresca‘s side being able to beat Morecambe comfortably after winning their third round FA Cup fixture 5-0.

Barcelona want around £59m for Ronald Araujo
For a defender, it looks like Araujo could cost Chelsea or any other interested club a lot of money.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will demand a €70m (£58.7m) fee for Araujo if the 25-year-old asks to leave the Spotify Camp Nou this month.
The Catalan club look determined to keep hold of Araujo, with Mundo Deportivo claiming that they have already turned down one bid from Juventus.
However, it appears that there is a price that they are willing to do business at. As of now, though, Guehi still seems to be Chelsea’s priority. Chelsea have a masterplan to land Guehi before the transfer window closes, though a couple of things could end up ruining it.
That will come as good news for Hansi Flick, who really appreciates Araujo. “He’s strong and ready to play,” the Barcelona manager was recently quoted as saying by beIN SPORTS when discussing his centre-half.

How much do Crystal Palace want for Marc Guehi?
Guehi is arguably Palace’s best player so, understandably, they want big money for the England international.
As per the Daily Mail, the Eagles’ valuation of Guehi last summer was £70m, meaning that Chelsea could sign Araujo for a cheaper fee.
At the same time, though, the same outlet claims that Palace’s valuation may have come down since then. Guehi will have just one year to run on his contract at the end of the season, so it is not a far-fetched claim.
While Chelsea could sign a new centre-back this month, they could also let one go. Axel Disasi could be sold for financial purposes as the Blues look to raise money for a potential Guehi deal.
