How Nicolas Jackson stopped former Chelsea teammate getting potential deadline day exit

It was pretty clear who the standout exit was on deadline day for Chelsea, and which players the club will be disappointed they couldn’t part ways with.

After a crazy weekend regarding his future, Nicolas Jackson ended up getting his dream move and making the switch to Bayern Munich on a loan with an obligation to buy.

Chelsea originally attempted to keep Jackson after the injury to Liam Delap in the West London derby, however they instead decided to recall Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to provide cover.

Deadline day ended up being a bit underwhelming for Chelsea, even if they were able to part ways with Ben Chilwell after nearly a year since he made his last appearance for the Blues.

One player they would have loved to part ways with was Axel Disasi, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

Graham Potter’s West Ham had approached Chelsea over a potential move, although a deal couldn’t be agreed for him to find a new club.

There was interest from outside the Premier League in the Frenchman, however a deal on a temporary basis soon became impossible.

Kieran Gill has claimed that both Marseille and Monaco were weighing up a deal, however when Jackson made a move to Bayern the final international loan spot had been filled.

He said: “Re Axel Disasi, told Marseille & Monaco showed interest today but lack of international loan spots partly scuppered any potential deal (Nicolas Jackson took the last one available) as well as overall cost. Crystal Palace & West Ham explored too but no-go.”

Chelsea’s international loanees for 2025/26

The Blues are allowed to make six international loan deals for a single campaign, with Jackson being the only one where the player is guaranteed to depart.

A deal done back in January saw Deivid Washington return to Brazil, despite a previous desire to sell him permanently.

Chelsea did all three possible deals with Strasbourg revolving around some of their most promising talents. Kendry Paez, Mike Penders and Mamadou Sarr have all been tipped to make it at Stamford Bridge.

The final spot was filled by Aaron Anselmino, who is already off to a brilliant start at Borussia Dortmund as a starting centre-back.
