Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has dealt Chelsea a blow heading into the January transfer window.

Viktor Gyokeres is one centre-forward who Chelsea have been linked with recently, but it looks like they could struggle to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.

In an interview with Record, the 25-year-old made it clear that he is happy at Sporting and claimed that he does not care about interest from other clubs.

Gyokeres only joined Sporting during the summer and is currently thriving there. In 20 appearances, he has scored 17 goals.

If Chelsea want to sign Gyokeres, it looks like they will have to wait. The former Coventry City man seems to be more than content with life at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me… I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment,” he said.

“I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all. Yes. This is where I want to stay.”

Hard for Chelsea to sign a striker in January

It is quite obvious that Chelsea want to bring in a new centre-forward, but it is not going to be easy.

Gyokeres does not appear to be open to a January move, while Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has also been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge, has just signed a new contract, taking him off the market until at least the summer.

It means Mauricio Pochettino may have to cope with just Nicolas Jackson, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku for the remainder of the season.

Nkunku quickly reminded everyone why Chelsea bought him last Sunday, managing to score on his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pochettino is going to need more of the same from him going forward if the club cannot acquire a new No.9 next month.
