Journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Chelsea will face competition to sign Christopher Nkunku next summer.

The Blues have reportedly been targeting the Frenchman as a long-term solution to their striker woes.

There is just Armando Broja in the Blues first team squad that is a natural recognised striker, with him making two appearances off the bench so far this campaign.

Thomas Tuchel has elected to start Kai Havertz in the central attacking role for all three of the club’s Premier League fixtures so far.

However, he is yet to score this season, gaining a number of critics along the way.

Reports have claimed that the Blues are close to agreeing a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, who is seemingly surplus to requirements following their addition of Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea face competition for Nkunku

It had been claimed that the signing would be somewhat of a stop-gap for the club in the position, with the plan being to add Nkunku to their ranks after this season.

However, Jones has claimed the Blues will face competition for a deal from German champions Bayern Munich.

He said: “Lots is being said about Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea for next year, and it is good that they are planning, but this one is going to be tricky as I have been told for a while that there is a very good chance Bayern Munich move for him too.

“And they usually get what they want in the Bundesliga.”

After missing out on a number of big targets during this window, the new owners will certainly be keen not to miss out on any potential transfers next season, as they continue to look to build a squad capable of challenging Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the table.
