‘In love’: Boehly and Tuchel are both massive fans of 25-year-old midfielder, Blues in contact over a deal – Romano

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly are massive admirers of Frenkie de Jong.

The Blues are reportedly in talks with Barcelona over a sensational deal for the Netherlands international, who has been the centre of one of the biggest transfer sagas in history.

Manchester United have been keen to sign the 25-year-old for the entire summer, however have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to convince him to join due to them being unable to offer Champions League football.

This has reportedly seen Barcelona turn to Chelsea in an attempt to move De Jong on, with it being essential for them to do so in order to register new signings.

Romano has claimed that the Blues have been in contact with the Catalan side, however they are hesitant to announce their interest until they receive an indication that the deal could be on.

Boehly and Tuchel love De Jong

He said: “It is absolutely true that Chelsea are interested in Frenkie de Jong. Todd Boehly and Thomas Tuchel are in love with the player. So Chelsea would love to sign De Jong. They have already had some contacts with Barcelona to explore this possibility and understand the price tag, but there is still no official agreement between Barca and Chelsea, because they will only move of Frenkie gives a green light to the move.

“As of today, he is still insisting to stay at Barcelona, and not taking a salary cut. As of now, he wants to continue. Chelsea are interested, but no bid until they are sure he is open to the move.”

Despite having a strong set of midfield options, the future of those players is not so certain under the surface.

Jorginho has openly claimed that he is unsure of where his future lies, with Juventus also reportedly intrigued by the chance of bringing him in.

The circumstances offering the chance to sign De Jong may not come around again for a player of this quality, and the club should look to get the deal done over their domestic rivals.
