Stuart Pearce has hailed the quality of Manchester City star Raheem Sterling, who’s reportedly a possible transfer target for Chelsea this summer.

Sterling, 27, is at the heart of recent transfer rumours, largely down to the fact he’s about to enter the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

It’s been reported Chelsea may be interested in trying to sign the England international this summer. The Blues would be a more attractive option for the Man City star than rival suitors Tottenham and Arsenal, too.

However, Real Madrid reportedly now want to step up their own interest in Sterling.

Stuart Pearce hailed Sterling

Ex-England player Pearce has explained he’s a massive admirer of Man City’s attacker.

He suggests that the quick winger may fancy trying a new challenge elsewhere amid exit transfer links.

“It’s unbelievable he’s only 27 years old with the experience and how well he’s done, both for club and country,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“He’ll go wherever I think he thinks his next personal challenge is. He might fancy abroad. There will be a lot takers for him. I think he’s been sensational. He’s added goals over the last five years.

“If he wants to stay at Manchester City, they’d be foolish not to keep him at football the club!”

Mr Underrated

Sterling’s often labelled by football fans as being weak in front of goal, often wasting goalscoring chances in the penalty box.

However, he’s a forward that’s already joined the Premier League’s 100 club for goals scored in his career (109).

The speedster finished the recent campaign with 17 goals across all competitions, which is more than any player in the Chelsea squad managed.

His performances on the international stage during the past couple of years have been outstanding, too.
