John Obi Mikel has been discussing Victor Osimhen after his failed move to Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea tried to sign Victor Osimhen on deadline day but could not get a deal over the line.

The striker has now ended up at Galatasaray and may regret not joining Chelsea considering what he is earning in Turkey.

According to journalist Matt Law, Chelsea’s loan offer for Osimhen was better for both the 25-year-old and Napoli than Galatasaray’s.

John Obi Mikel on Victor Osimhen

Mikel is good friends with Osimhen and knows what went down between Chelsea and his countryman.

On the outside, it did not always sound pretty at times, but Mikel has suggested that a transfer could still happen in January.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, the former Chelsea player said: “We were very, very close, I will put it that way. We were very, very close. We were hours away of getting this deal done, but it was just, you know, slight issues, slight little problems that we just couldn’t get over the line, and of course, the medical couldn’t be done as well.

“Even if we get the deal done, it was too late, but I know exactly where we stopped. I know exactly where we are with the deal, and if eventually you know, say January or whatever we have to pick it up again, then I know exactly where we are and where we have to start from. I was the guy in the middle of everything. A couple of days I didn’t sleep.”

Some Blues fans seem to have moved on from Osimhen, though, with several Chelsea supporters now urging the club to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

Should Chelsea make a fresh move for Victor Osimhen?

There is a possibility of Chelsea going back in for Osimhen at the start of the new year.

While Osimhen has joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan, there is thought to be a break clause in the deal.

Depending on where Chelsea are in January and how Nicolas Jackson is performing, the Blues should consider returning for the Nigerian.

Osimhen remains a top striker. Chelsea will struggle to find a better centre-forward than him on the market.

He scored 17 goals for Napoli last season and 31 the campaign before. Despite everything that happened, Chelsea still like Osimhen, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Considering that and Mikel’s words, then, it would not be a surprise if Chelsea revisited a deal for the Nigeria international in January. Again, though, that could hinge on Jackson’s form.

If the 23-year-old is banging in the goals, then the club may feel there is no need to spend big on another centre-forward.
