Conor Gallagher isn’t close yet to finding a breakthrough with Chelsea over a new contract, but the general feeling from the discussions is that the player will end up staying at Stamford Bridge.
That is according to journalist Dean Jones.
Conor Gallagher, 23, has emerged as one of Chelsea’s most important first-team stars this season. There’s no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival as head coach has been a blessing for him.
One issue hanging over the box-to-box midfielder is that he’s about to enter the final 18 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge, so there’s plenty of speculation in the media about his future.
ESPN reported this week that Chelsea would sell Gallagher if they received a £50million bid for him.
Thankfully, there’s now a fresh claim that suggests Gallagher will stay put with his boyhood club.

Contract talks
Dean Jones reports that he’s been told Gallagher will probably end up staying at Chelsea and committing his future at Stamford Bridge.
He doesn’t expect the England international to leave West London. In addition, both the player and the manager want an outcome where a new deal is sorted.
“I think there’s this narrative around the fact that if Chelsea are going to go and spend more money, then the best way for them to raise funds and to avoid FFP sanctions is to sell lads that comes from the academy. And I totally understand that and it’s true,” Jones told GiveMeSport.
“Selling Gallagher just doesn’t make much sense when he’s so ingrained in what Pochettino has been doing so far this season. Gallagher doesn’t want to leave, Pochettino doesn’t want him to leave and from what I understand the conversations that have happened, while they might not be on the verge of a complete breakthrough when he was signing a new contract, I was told a couple of weeks ago that he probably will be staying.
“So I would expect once we get to the new year that one really does kick on. We do need clarity on it pretty soon, but I’d be very surprised if Gallagher ended up leaving.”
Conor Gallagher likely to stay at Chelsea
If you’re rating Chelsea’s most important players in the first half of the season, Gallagher definitively makes it on the podium places.
The all-action central midfielder is one of the few consistent performers in the squad that fans know will put 100 per cent into every game.
There’s no way we should be allowing the academy graduate walk out the exit door, so hopefully there’s soon a breakthrough during the negotiations for a new contract.
During the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell to injury, Gallagher has even done a great job as the stand-in captain.
