Juventus now want to sign ‘unique’ Chelsea target on a free transfer next summer

Juventus want to beat Chelsea to one forward’s signature in 2025 and could end up signing him for nothing.

His contract expires next summer, meaning that Juventus or Chelsea may not have to pay a single penny for his services.

The Blues may have to replace Christopher Nkunku if he becomes unhappy at Stamford Bridge. The 26-year-old has barely played in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea needed a goal after the 70th minute in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United over the weekend following Bruno Fernandes’ penalty, but Enzo Maresca decided not to bring on Nkunku.

Juventus face battle with Chelsea to sign Jonathan David

Juventus will be hoping that Nkunku remains content at Chelsea and that the Frenchman and Nicolas Jackson can have successful seasons in west London.

According to Calciomercato, they want to sign Lille’s Jonathan David next summer when his contract expires.

However, the same outlet claims that Chelsea are a serious threat to their chances of landing him and have already tried to recruit the 24-year-old in the past.

It has been reported elsewhere that Chelsea have recently scouted David, so there does seem to be some interest.

Jonathan David could replace Christopher Nkunku at Chelsea

With Nkunku thought to be concerned over his lack of minutes, perhaps the France international could leave Chelsea next year, while David comes in.

Nkunku is too good of a forward to remain on the Blues’ bench. If his role in the squad between now and the end of the season does not increase, then he is going to have to make a decision.

David could be a great alternative to Jackson if he does come in. “Has such a unique mentality to never stop,” Canada manager Jesse Marsch was quoted as saying by The Athletic.

It is a long season, though. One injury to Jackson and Nkunku could easily find himself back in the frame again and see his importance to Maresca increase.
