‘Knocking at the door’: Chelsea have actually made three bids for ‘fantastic’ player this summer

David Ornstein has revealed that Chelsea have actually seen three bids for Moises Caicedo rejected by Brighton this summer.

The hugely reliable journalist made the claim when speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel.

So, what is the latest on Moises Caicedo and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea’s £60m bid for the Ecuador international – submitted in June – was exclusively revealed by Ornstein in The Athletic, while the more recent £70m offer was also heavily documented.

However, there was another bid made in between those two offers, worth £65m, which flew under the radar.

Speaking on Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel (15:00 onwards) Ornstein said: “Chelsea, to my understanding, have actually had three bids turned down by Brighton worth £60m, which I was first to reveal, £65m, and then £70m as well. They’ve been knocking at the door, but Brighton are not opening it.”

Whether it’s one, two, three or four bids, Chelsea are still miles away from an agreement with Brighton.

The Seagulls are holding out for a sum of £100m for Caicedo – who John Barnes once called a “fantastic” player – after seeing Declan Rice move to Arsenal in a deal worth £105m.

Alex Crook of talkSPORT has suggested that Chelsea will go nowhere near that amount, so it remains to be seen where the Blues go from here.

Caicedo to Chelsea – there’s another problem for the Blues

The timing of this situation is all wrong for Chelsea.

It seemed as if Chelsea would do their best to sign Caicedo, and if a deal failed to materialise, the Blues would then make a move for Southampton No.45 Romeo Lavia – the Daily Mail believe he is the backup option.

However – according to Football London – the Belgian has decided to join Liverpool, with Jürgen Klopp’s side now expected to get a deal done after seeing an initial £37m bid rejected.

Now, it is a mystery who Chelsea go for to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield department – the summer transfer strategy at Stamford Bridge is not exactly going to plan.
