‘Madness’… Darren Bent can’t believe transfer rumour he’s heard about £50m Chelsea player

The transfer speculation that Chelsea could end up selling Conor Gallagher this year is “madness”.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent.

Blues star Conor Gallagher, 23, is a popular name in the transfer rumour mill right now.

The Independent reported this week that Tottenham are looking at Gallagher as a priority target as they begin to ramp up plans to sign a new midfielder. The report added that Chelsea may be prepared to sell their box-to-box midfielder this month for around £50million.

Darren Bent thinks it’s crazy that Chelsea could cash in on Gallagher during the January window.

We know that the academy graduate’s sale would pure profit on the balance sheet and he’s currently into the last 18 months of his deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea supporters will know he’s been one of the rare consistent performers this season. In fact, he’s been the captain for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in recent months while others have been injured.

Bent told talkSPORT: “Him (Gallagher) and Cole Palmer have been shining lights. Conor Gallagher, you know what you’re getting from him. He works hard every day. He seems to have got more composed on the ball. He works his socks off. The fact that they’re thinking of letting him go, that is madness.”

Despite the rumours that Chelsea could sell Gallagher for the right price, we’re optimistic he’ll stay.

We expect a full riot if the Blues do offload the central midfielder in 2024. Instead, our advice is for the club to desperately try to sort a new contract with him.

The England international must not be sold this year, especially to close rivals Spurs!

Speaking via GiveMeSport recently, journalist Alex Crook has reported that Chelsea’s players in the dressing room are angry about the idea of Gallagher being sold. If you listen to the majority of the fanbase, we suspect they’d say the same thing.
