Axel Disasi has been heavily linked with leaving Chelsea in the winter transfer window, and it looks like he could get a move in the very final stages.
There’s a number of talented defenders in the Chelsea squad this season. Unfortunately, Axel Disasi has found himself fall down the pecking order since Enzo Maresca took charge as the Blues manager.
The 26-year-old central defender, who can also cover right-back, is still at the centre of transfer speculation in the final hours of the window.
Tottenham resurrected a late move to try sign Chelsea’s Disasi after already agreeing a £5m loan deal. Meanwhile, Chelsea recently turned down Aston Villa’s loan approach for Disasi.
Disasi isn’t in the Chelsea squad that hosts West Ham tonight in the Premier League. Fresh rumours suggest that’s because he’s about to join a Premier League rival on deadline day.

Major development in Axel Disasi saga as Chelsea agree loan deal
According to journalist Matt Law via X on Monday night, Premier League side Aston Villa now have an agreement in place to sign Chelsea’s Disasi on a short-term loan. Apparently, the French defender will move to Villa Park for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
Despite rival interest from Spurs, his clear preference has been a move to the Midlands.
It looks like an extremely successful close to the January window for Villa because Disasi would join Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio as a new signing in the last 24 hours. We’ll now wait to see if this deal is officially completed and gets pushed over the line.
Chelsea fans liked the idea of Disasi joining Spurs, but it looks like he’s about to join Unai Emery’s Villa team.

Axel Disasi must play at centre-back
When it comes to how Villa plan to use Disasi, we’d advise them to deploy him only as a centre-back.
The experienced defender struggles whenever he covers at full-back. Incidentally, John Obi Mikel criticised Disasi for a Chelsea performance at right-back earlier in the season.
Villa do have injuries in the centre of defence with Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings, so perhaps Disasi could be a short-term fix in their XI. The fact that he’ll get to play Champions League football with them in the second half of the season should be attractive, too.
If Disasi can regain his confidence and form, it could be a loan deal that works well for Villa.
