Southampton’s Romeo Lavia wants to join Chelsea after a conversation with Mauricio Pochettino.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Reporting on his Substack, Phillips has explained that a big reason why Romeo Lavia has decided to join Chelsea over Liverpool is the chat he’s had with Mauricio Pochettino.

Apparently, the Blues head coach has been very hands-on with the club’s transfer dealings this summer and been keen to speak with targets to help convince them to come to Stamford Bridge.

All the noise coming out about Pochettino in the early months of his reign makes us think the club got this appointment spot on.

While so much work goes into what happens off the pitch, Chelsea also got their campaign underway at the weekend with a 1-1 home draw against Liverpool.

We really liked what we saw from the Blues on Sunday. The addition of Moises Caicedo, plus the imminent arrival of Lavia, strengthens the team even further.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on his YouTube channel that Lavia will have his Chelsea medical on Wednesday before completing the transfer.

Let’s hope he’s ready to make his debut this weekend when the team travel to West Ham in the Premier League.

Described as “incredible” by Pep Guardiola (Manchester City’s official website), Lavia is a highly-rated defensive midfielder that adds more quality and excitement to this young squad.

The 19-year-old Belgian impressed during his first year of Premier League football last season in Southampton colours.

He’s quick, aggressive and covers a lot of ground from the centre of the park as an all-action midfielder.
