Reports from France have claimed that Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is now really keen on the club signing Sporting Lisbon winger Marcus Edwards.
According to Foot Mercato, the Blues have the opportunity to activate his £52m release clause if they decide they want to this summer.
Edwards is one of a number of names linked with becoming Chelsea’s final signing of the transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has already claimed that the next addition made by the club is going to be the most shocking one they have made so far.
This will certainly take some doing, after they already smashed their transfer record to bring in Moises Caicedo earlier this summer.
The manager has hinted frequently in recent weeks that he is hoping to add an attacking profile to his ranks. This is likely due to the injury suffered late in pre-season by Christopher Nkunku.
One of the candidates for this role is Edwards, who has been shining over in Portugal since leaving Tottenham as a youngster.
He was previously coached by Pochettino in North London, and the manager was full of praise for his work when he was there.
The Argentine even made a comparison to Lionel Messi when describing him.
It remains to be seen whether the Englishman is the one who Chelsea decide to go for as they add reinforcements to their ranks.
Claims yesterday stated that the Blues have a shortlist of up to ten players they are currently considering to fill the void they see they have.
Other names that have been linked are Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe and Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho.
