Napoli have made contact about the possibility of signing Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen.

That is according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Ian Maatsen, who’s been on Chelsea’s books since 2018, is a member of the first-team squad this season.

However, the 21-year-old youngster is a fringe player and plenty of his nine appearances have been off the bench.

There’s now suggestions that he could exit Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis.

Napoli interest in Chelsea player

Rudy Galetti has reported that Maatsen is in the firing line to potentially leave next month amid interest from the likes of Napoli and West Ham.

Apparently, the versatile wide player is worth between €15million (£13million) and €20million (£17million).

Italian champions Napoli are the side to enquire about signing Maatsen.

Galetti wrote on X: “Chelsea will work to lighten the squad in January to comply with FFP rules.”

“Ian Maatsen is on the exit list: West Ham – as revealed – and other two clubs are interested.

“The Dutch left-back – price tag €15/20m – is also followed by European teams: among them, Napoli asked for info.”

Ian Maatsen could be sold

There’s increasing speculation that points towards Maatsen going soon.

A lot of the best football in his young career has been as a left-back, but he can’t seem to get much of a look-in at Chelsea in that role. Instead, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino is using him sparingly further forward.

Football.London has just reported that Maatsen’s had a change of heart and is ready to leave Chelsea. In addition, the club are actually eager to push through his sale in the January window to receive a good sum.

We would have loved the Dutch speedster to get more opportunities in the first half of the season, but a transfer does look like no-brainer for all at this point.

Incidentally, 90min reported a couple of months ago that Manchester City managerPep Guardiola is keen on signing Maatsen in January.
