RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol has admitted a transfer this summer is extremely unlikely at this point.

He told Net HR that his current club are not interested in a deal to let him go at the end of the season, and therefore his focus is on doing his best for them.

Chelsea have been strongly linked to a deal that would have brought the Croatian in at any point in the last two transfer windows, and they remain interested up to now in a deal that may cost them £80m.

His performances at the World Cup brought plenty more interest towards signing him however. Chelsea were left kicking themselves as he impressed greatly towards a third place finish in Qatar.

While they have reportedly remained interested in the 21-year-old, it is looking like a deal this summer is not going to be pulled off.

Gvardiol deal not likely this summer

Gvardiol said: “My life hasn’t changed after the WC, I’m still the same me. I hope to keep focus on what I’m doing and be the best possible version of myself. Unfortunately, I can’t avoid the attention I’m getting, I have to be careful what I say. Sometimes I wish there was less attention, but I have to live with it.”

“The club is not interested in selling me this summer, so there is no point in talking about anything else. The most important thing is to end this season in Leipzig in the best possible way,”

The Blues will have a returning Levi Colwill at the end of the season, who will certainly feel like a new signing based on how impressive he has been this season at Brighton on loan.

Chelsea would be far better off looking to develop him than spending big money on Gvardiol in the upcoming transfer windows.
