Fabrizio Romano has provided an update for Chelsea fans about Kai Havertz after Real Madrid expressed a desire to sign the German.
The reliable Italian journalist was speaking about the situation on YouTube.
So, what is the latest on Kai Havertz at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Romano has now revealed that a deal for Real Madrid to sign Havertz is off.
It was BILD in Germany who claimed that the Spanish giants were all set to sign the 24-year-old in a £52m deal, as Carlo Ancelotti attempts to find a replacement for Karim Benzema.
Now – however – unless Chelsea lower the asking price, Real Madrid are not going to sign Havertz.

Romano said: “This is something I got over the weekend. Real Madrid feel internally that the asking price, which is more than €60m (£52m) because it is €60m (£52m) guaranteed plus add-ons, is way too much.
“Real Madrid like Havertz but they will not pay the money. So, at the moment while I am speaking, the Havertz deal for Real Madrid is off.”
Chelsea could face a Havertz backlash
In our view, Chelsea could now start to hear more from Havertz in this particular transfer saga.
The Guardian believe Chelsea’s No.29 has already asked to leave – however, that may just be the start.
A story from SPORT in Spain states that Real Madrid have asked Havertz to take matters into his own hands after baulking at Chelsea’s asking price, with Los Blancos hoping to see the German put pressure on the Blues.
The Spanish news outlet add that Real Madrid have successfully adopted this tactic with Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic in the past.
Therefore, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Havertz become more vocal about his desire to leave in the next few weeks.
