‘Outstanding’ Chelsea player wanted to join Leicester City this summer

One Chelsea outcast was keen on a switch to Leicester City this summer, but a move to the King Power Stadium broke down.

Right now, Chelsea have so many players not training with the first team. Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and David Datro Fofana are just a few examples.

Sterling would consider joining Manchester United if they came in for him, while it has also been claimed that Chilwell has been offered to Erik ten Hag’s team.

As for Fofana, there has also been talk about the striker joining another Premier League side.

Leicester City wanted to sign David Datro Fofana from Chelsea

If Fofana had his way, he would probably be at Leicester with Steve Cooper right now after being left out of Enzo Maresca‘s group.

According to LondonWorld, Leicester were in talks with Chelsea about signing Fofana and the striker was keen on a move there.

However, as per the same outlet, the two clubs were unable to agree a fee, leaving the 21-year-old stuck at Cobham for now.

Not being part of Maresca’s plans, though, he needs either a loan or permanent transfer this summer. Fofana is now being linked to Everton.

David Datro Fofana a pointless signing for Chelsea

Since joining Chelsea last year, Fofana has only managed to play four games for the Blues.

He has had loans at Union Berlin and Burnley, with his spell at the latter not being terrible. There, he scored four goals in 15 Premier League appearances, which was not enough to save the Clarets from relegation.

It was a good effort, though, and he did impress his former manager Vincent Kompany at times.

“He was outstanding,” Kompany told the Burnley Express after one of his performances last season. However, with Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu currently part of Maresca’s squad, there is no room for the Ivorian, while Chelsea could yet add another striker to their ranks.

Ahead of the transfer window closing on Friday, the Blues are being heavily linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
