Mauricio Pochettino believes Lautaro Martinez is one of the world’s best strikers as he aims to bring the Inter Milan No.10 to Chelsea.

That is according to The Times.

So, what was written about Lautaro Martinez? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is said that Pochettino is a huge admirer of his fellow Argentine, and is set to make attempts to sign him for Chelsea after Saturday’s Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City.

The Times believe Real Madrid are expected to compete against Chelsea for Martinez as Carlo Ancelotti looks to replace Karim Benzema.

Pochettino is believed to view the 25-year-old as one of the world’s best strikers and has been a long-term admirer of the South American.

Real Madrid pursued Martinez before his €22m (£19m) move from Racing Club to Inter Milan in July 2018, and according to The Times, remain keen amid doubts over the likelihood of signing Harry Kane.

The Argentina international has been in sensational form at the San Siro this season, scoring 28 goals and providing 11 assists in 56 appearances as Inter Milan attempt to add the Champions League to their Coppa Italia success.

Martinez arrival could give Lukaku a Chelsea lifeline

According to Fabrizio Romano, Romelu Lukaku wants to stay at Inter Milan with a meeting set to take place after the Champions League final.

However, Martinez joining Chelsea could add a new dimension to the Belgian’s life at Chelsea.

Lukaku has struck up a dangerous partnership with the 25-year-old during his time at Inter Milan.

The pair have shared a pitch on 109 occasions, combining for 25 goals while averaging an impressive 1.99 points per game at Inter Milan.

Lukaku has struggled to find his shooting boots at Chelsea, but if Pochettino signed Martinez – who is clearly able to help the Belgium international be more effective in attack – he may decide to stay at Stamford Bridge.
