RB Leipzig have teased some Chelsea fans on Twitter in response to questions about the reported agreement between the Blues and striker Timo Werner.

Ahead of their Bundesliga clash against TSG Hoffenheim which will take place on Friday, Leipzig’s official Twitter tweeted about Werner’s five goals and an assist record against Hoffenheim.

It is a simple statistics tweet by a football club about their player which usually does not attract any Chelsea fans if the 24-year-old has not been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Some Blues fans who have been waiting for an official announcement have taken the chance to ask for confirmation.

Interestingly, instead of ignoring these tweets, Leipzig’s Twitter poked fun at some seemingly desperate Chelsea fans.

Not just RB Leipzig and, obviously, Chelsea’s Twitter accounts, a few journalists have also been bombarded with questions about Werner’s reported Chelsea transfer.

The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano recently responded to a question from a Chelsea fan, saying: “Timo is going to Chelsea, mate.”

While The Athletic’s Chelsea journalist Liam Twomey addressed the questions, saying that the Germany international has “said yes to joining Chelsea” last Thursday.

He added: “Chelsea just need to meet the release clause before it expires.”

“The clubs can announce it whenever they want.”
