According to the Daily Mail, as we speak, the coaches at Cobham are putting Frankie Terry through his paces as he looks to emulate the club’s iconic captain.
Colchester allowed the 18-year-old to try his luck on the pitches that a certain famous uncle used to walk on so regularly.
Runs in the family
Frankie certainly has a decent heritage when it comes to a footballing bloodline.
His dad, Paul, played nearly 200 games for Yeovil Town and Leyton Orient between 2003 and 2009.
On the other side of the family, Frankie’s mother is the sister of Paul Konchesky – Paul must be a popular name in the clan- the former well-travelled left-back.
Konchesky wracked up well over 350 Premier League appearances for the likes of Liverpool, Fulham, West Ham United, Leicester City and Charlton Athletic.
Arguably his greatest achievement was reaching the Europa League final with Fulham in 2010, where a 116th-minute winner from Diego Forlan handed Atletico Madrid victory.
But easily Frankie’s most revered ancestor is Chelsea’s legendary skipper.
Terry senior won five Premier League titles, eight domestic cups and two European trophies at the heart of the Blues defence, pretty much all achieved whilst wearing the armband.
If Terry junior can accomplish anything close to this illustrious CV, Stamford Bridge might well have another hero on their hands.
Chelsea building for the future
John’s kin is not the only young talented being blooded in South West London.
Although Chelsea failed to make any first-team signings last month, they did bolster their youth ranks.
Dylan Williams was signed from Derby County to potentially become the Under-23s’ first-choice left wing-back.
Mason Burstow managed to sign on the dotted line on deadline day, before being loaned straight back to Charlton for the remainder of the season.
Plymouth Argyle’s 14-year-old Harry McGlinchey joined the Champions League holders earlier this week.
