Several clubs are reportedly interested in signing Willian in the summer, including two London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
Willian is one of the Chelsea players whose contract runs out this summer.
The 31-year-old has featured in over 300 games since his arrival in 2013, but reportedly rejected the club’s offer after both parties failed to come to an agreement on the contract’s length.
The Telegraph claimed the situation has alerted a few clubs such as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, but Willian’s wish to stay in London may tip the scale towards two London clubs – Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
After the 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday, Willian told ESPN Brasil: “We really like London, I have said it many times.
“It is a city where my family and I love to live. I don’t know why she [his wife] published this post, but the contract situation really isn’t easy.
“Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three years and everything stopped there.”
The statement came after his wife previously claimed on social media that “Willian’s days at Chelsea are numbered” (via ESPN’s Joao Castelo-Branco).
Chelsea have a few more months to restart the negotiations, but a three-year deal for someone over the age of 30 seems unlikely to come from Chelsea, who previously had a policy of only offering one-year deals to players at this age.
