Reports suggest that Chelsea are in advanced talks to make David Datro Fofana their first signing of the January transfer window.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are likely to be making the signing with an eye towards the future, with there being a good chance he is loaned back out for the remainder of this season.

The striker has had an impressive season in the Norwegian league this year, scoring 15 goals despite not always being a starter.

He has also proven he can contribute on the European stage, scoring twice in both the qualifiers and group stages of the Conference League this season.

It was potentially believed that the signing of Fofana was made in response to the news that Armando Broja would be missing for the rest of the campaign.

Fofana to be loaned out

The Albanian was forced off on a stretcher against Aston Villa in a friendly match last weekend, with his worst fears of an ACL injury being realised.

Despite having only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz as recognisable options to play down the middle, the Evening Standard have claimed that Fofana may not be added to that list this season.

This opens up the possibility, and realistically probability, that the Blues sign another option next month.

With Christopher Nkunku expected to be a Chelsea player at the end of this campaign, selecting an option for likely only a few months may prove difficult.

There has been talk of them attempting to sign Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko, with him being a youngster who is seemingly better prepared for instant first team football.

He has already made his debut for Germany at the World Cup, and his current contract with the Bundesliga side is set to expire at the end of this season.
