Reports suggest that Chelsea are about to confirm a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
According to The Athletic, the Blues are finally on the verge of finalising a deal with Barcelona, which will see Marcos Alonso head the other way to complete his own long-awaited move.
The deal is set to become Chelsea’s first bit of business on what’s set to be an extremely busy final day of the summer transfer window.
The club’s need for a striker has only become more obvious as the season has gone on, with no one other than Raheem Sterling contributing goals from the frontline.
Kai Havertz in particular has struggled to impress, with him drawing criticism from many for his personal lacklustre start to the season.
Chelsea on verge for Aubameyang
This has undoubtedly somewhat been behind the club’s maintained desire to sign Aubameyang, with The Athletic reporting that they’re moving towards finalising terms on the player’s three-year contract.
It is so far unclear what the deal will mean for Armando Broja’s future, with there being calls for him to start after his cameo appearance at St. Mary’s during the week.
However, in their current situation it would be difficult for the Blues to say no to a player with the Premier League pedigree of Aubameyang, who also enjoyed a strong return to first team football in his half-season with Barcelona last season.
There may be a couple of questions regarding his attitude problems that brought an unsavoury end to his time at the Emirates.
However, Blues fans should feel confident in the fact that Thomas Tuchel is the man for the job in order to keep him in line, with the pair enjoying a fruitful spell together at Borussia Dortmund and the manager being a driving force behind getting the deal done.
