Reports suggest that Chelsea made a late attempt to sign Idrissa Gueye in the last few days of this transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues joined Arsenal in making a late attempt to sign the midfielder, although his return to Everton is now set to be confirmed.
The 32-year-old is set to leave PSG after becoming surplus to requirements ever since Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking, with the Argentine describing him as ‘quality’.

He joined the French champions in 2019, and has made 111 appearances since his arrival while establishing himself as an important member of the club’s midfield.
However, he is yet to be included in the PSG squad for this season, with them scoring 17 goals in their opening three games before being held 1-1 by Monaco at the weekend.
Chelsea made late Gueye attempt
This has seen interest rise in him, with him now set to be confirmed Frank Lampard’s latest signing at Everton.
Despite this, the Daily Mail have claimed the Blues made a late attempt to sign the Senegal international, with them still yet to strengthen in the midfield role.
Links to central midfielders have only been sparse throughout this busy window, with interest seemingly mostly coming in defenders for this window.

The Blues have just announced the signing of Wesley Fofana on a seven-year deal, with the young Frenchman joining Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella as defensive reinforcements that were desperately needed at the start of this window.
The main midfield target this summer has been Frenkie de Jong, although his desire to stay at Barcelona on his beneficial contract has seen him not consider moves from outside.
The other potential midfield signing early in the window was Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon, however he has since completed a somewhat shock move to Wolves, already impressing in his opening couple of games.
